Subject: Licensing Renewal Instructions for Continuation of Broker's License

Please find enclosed the South Carolina "Application for Continuation of Broker's License" for the period May 1, 2004 through April 30, 2006. Resident and Non-Resident brokers must complete and return the application and a renewal fee of $200.00 by May 30, 2004, or the broker's license will be cancelled. Any broker whose license has been canceled for failure to properly file the Application and pay the appropriate fee by May 30, 2004 will be required to submit the Application and pay a fee of $400 (a reinstatement fee equal to the biennial license fee and the biennial fee), to reinstate the broker license. (South Carolina Code Ann. §38-45-50) If you do not wish to renew your broker's license, please return your license along with your blank renewal form to this Department.

Please note that the Broker's license is continuous and a new license will not be issued upon renewal. Your cancelled check will serve as your receipt.

Additionally, the Federal Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, 18 U.S.C. Section 1033 (e) (2) prohibits individuals convicted of criminal offenses involving dishonesty or breach of trust from engaging in the transaction of insurance without the consent of the South Carolina Department of Insurance. If, since May 1, 2002, you have been convicted of a crime involving dishonesty or breach of trust in the transaction of insurance please submit with your application a written statement and documentation regarding the conviction.

Note: South Carolina Code Ann. Section 38-45-30 requires a resident broker to post a $10,000 bond. A Nonresident broker is not required to post a bond.
