Application for Continuation of Non-Resident Motor Vehicle Damage Appraiser License

ADJUSTER LICENSE FEES

The following fee schedule is applicable:

  • The renewal license fee for all resident motor vehicle damage appraisers is $80 .
  • The renewal license fee for all nonresident motor vehicle damage appraisers will depend on the amount charged by your home state, subject to an $80.00 minimum. If your home state does not require licensure as a motor vehicle damage appraiser, then an $80 license fee would be due. A Letter of Certification is not required to renew your license.

Examples of retaliatory fees are: North Carolina $150.00    Georgia $100.00

PENALTY PROVISION

South Carolina Code Section 38-49-30 provides that if the license fee is not received when due, the license must be canceled. However, if the appraiser’s license is canceled, a new application will be required, and payment of a penalty fee double the regular fee must be paid before the license can be reinstated. Therefore, if you allow your license to cancel, the following penalty fee will be applicable:

  • A resident appraiser’s reinstatement fee of $80 will be due in addition to the $80 renewal fee for a total of $160 .
  • A nonresident appraiser’s reinstatement fee will be double the retaliatory fee if in excess of $80. Example, if your home state charges a $100 fee for a Motor Vehicle Damage Appraiser’s license, a $100 penalty fee will be due in addition to the $100 regular license fee for a total of $200.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS

South Carolina Code Section 38-49-25 requires Motor Vehicle Damage Appraisers to notify the Department within 30 days of any change in address. Many appraisers have not complied with this law in the past and have paid administrative penalties as a result. To avoid having to pay penalty fees, the South Carolina Department of Insurance has made arrangements where individuals can go online and update their address information. That website address www.doi.sc.gov. Once there, click on the “UPDATE ADDRESS” icon and follow the directions.

Motor vehicle damage appraiser’s licenses are continuous, if not cancelled or revoked. Therefore, a new license will not be issued. Your cancelled check will serve as your receipt. Please make certain that all spaces on the renewal application form are completed, or your application may be returned.

If you do not wish to renew your license , please indicate on the Renewal Application and return it, along with your license to this Department. If there are any questions, please contact the Office of Individual Licensing at (803) 737-6095.
